Support for Creative Businesses in the 10 Parishes
Support for Creative Businesses
in the 10 Parishes
We’re planning to run a series of workshops focussed on the creative businesses in our area. In order to move this forward we’ll start with an evening for all artists, designers and makers to share experiences and discuss how we can encourage and support each other better.
This creative discussion will be on Thursday 9th December and will be chaired by Neil Musson. Neil is a local artist who works internationally and has many years of business experience in the arts. He also lectures and curates exhibitions for the Royal College of Art.
The aim of the evening is to get as many creative minds together as possible to cover the following:
1. Discussion based on the following questions:
- What is your creative business?
- What do you do really well?
- What would you like to do better?
2. Presentation of potential ways in which we could support creative businesses
- A chance to share opinions about our ideas for events, exhibitions and workshops.
3. Networking with drinks and snacks.
To make the conversation more visual please confirm attendance by emailing one image of your work or studio to neil@mussonretallick.com. This will be displayed whilst you introduce your business and it will be really exciting to see the range of artistic skill that surrounds us; Please don’t be shy, it’s very informal and you only have to say a few sentences!
We are hoping for a good attendance so that we can shape the future of the 10 Parishes Business Group to work for you.
The event starts at 6–8pm on Thursday 9th December in Wiveliscombe Community Centre.

One of the 10pbg’s priorities has always been to have locally based Business Advice.
To achieve this please see the good news below.
10pbg are delighted to announce that we are now working with Torbay Development Agency (TDA) and Enterprise South West to substantially increase the local support for businesses in the 10pbg Area.
From a 10pbg perspective, we undertook a Survey of the Light Industrial Businesses in our area a few years ago.
What came forward from the 39 respondents was a top priority (82%) needed locally based, impartial and objective, business advice.
We fed this information into the SCC/TDBC planning for the new Wiveliscombe Enterprise Centre and as you will see below we are commencing work shortly on this topic
TDA successfully run the network of SCC funded Enterprise Centres and have skilled Business Advisors.
Following discussions with the 10PG and representatives from Enterprise South West, (ESW), we are putting together a programme of workshops to help existing businesses and budding entrepreneurs achieve success.
ESW is a leading provider of workspace management, including the new Wiveliscombe Enterprise Centre, as well as another eight sites across the county, on behalf of Somerset County Council.
The Wiveliscombe centre opened in October 2020 after experiencing some delays. Occupation rates at Wiveliscombe are already very high, with all the light industrial units and most of the offices snapped up already.
Alongside workspace management, ESW offers class-leading Business Support from their team of experienced, impartial Business Advisors. Since 2017, ESW has supported over 750 Somerset Businesses, including start-ups and well-established companies.
We are seeking input from you to help us devise a programme of suitable support . Potential topics could include;
-
- Getting started in Business
- Dealing with the Finances
- Access to Funding
- A Business Plan to Success
- 10 steps to a successful Business
- Customer Service & Sales
- Business Health Checks
- Social Media Marketing, (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & LinkedIn)
Get in contact with us to let us know if any of these topics or any others are of interest esw@tda.uk.net
We look forward to hearing from you and being able to support the Wiveliscombe and 10 Parish business community.
Enterprise South West is a wholly owned subsidiary and part of TDA Group.
