The 2 car park surveys have been handed to the town council with our recommendations for 20 allocated spaces for shoppers with a 2 hour maximum stay and more residents parking elsewhere in town.
The unique selling point for Wiveliscombe are the free car parks however the spaces available for shoppers have reduced over the last year which is hampering the sustainability of the retailers in the town centre.
The town council are going to contact Taunton Deane to find out what assets they hold in Wiveliscombe. A representative of the town council is meeting people who took over the running of the Dulverton car park to find out more. Other recommendations from the survey included a pull in bus stop/ loading bay in the square and a loading bay in West Street and better signage for Croft Way car park.
John Bird says
Regarding shoppers’ parking in Wivey; Old postcards which show the square as a square make the centre look far more attractive, To open it up would provide 15 min parking bays outside the Co-op, closer loading, a bus pull-in and give the town its 1930s character back.
