An Apprenticeship Breakfast was held at Kingsmead School on Thursday 6th October.
A dozen local employers were treated to an excellent address from Becky Heath from Somerset Skills and Learning, on the benefits of offering apprenticeships to new and existing staff.
Apprenticeships are available to anyone aged over the age of 16, this includes those who are new to the organisation and existing staff. A £1500 grant is available to support smaller businesses to recruit apprentices aged 16-24 into employment.
Many apprentices appreciate that the Apprenticeship route helps them get a foot on the door on their career ladder, where they can gain real life skills, experience and qualifications whilst earning. In return, employers are given a cost effective way of hiring enthusiastic young people to work for them as they impart their knowledge and skills on to another generation.
